About Project

The goal of this project is to design a fun system that provides an alternative way for two distance separated intimates (friends, family, couples, etc.) to stay in touch

Persona One: Noah, "A Busy Brother"

Noah is an 18 years old student who is in his first year of Bachelor of Science. He is a very smart kid and always really curious about different technologies. He lives in Regina and is far from his family. It is his first year so he is always busy with his work. He has three siblings who are younger than him. One is 14 year old, then 10 year old and the youngest is 7 year old. He misses his siblings a lot but he is very busy with his assignments and midterms that he always forget to call his siblings and parents.

Noah tries to call his siblings whenever he gets time. He misses his siblings a lot, especially his youngest sister Susan. He has a fews days off so he thought that he should make some app that will tell him that his siblings are available online and as his siblings are young he thought that the app should be more of a fun app so that his siblings especially his younger sister can enjoy the phone call. Noah wanted to do everything to keep in touch with his loved one.

Live is different city with different time zone
Misses his family and call them whenever he gets time

To finish his studies with A+ grades

Persona Two: Susan, "A Loving Sister"

Susan is a 7 year old kid who loves to read and enjoys going to school to learn. She is always happy and bouncing about. She asks lots of questions to increase her knowledge. She is confident of her age. She is very creative and loves colorful and fun things. She is an active and fun loving kid.

She is the youngest child of her family. She loves her family but she misses his brother, Noah, the most. She is always asking her parents and older siblings to call Noah but Noah is always very busy with his work and because of different time zones she cannot call him every time. Just like her brother, she has interest in different technologies. She likes to text, call her brother whenever she can and she also wants her brother to do something that will keep them in touch forever and wherever they are.

My Rough Sketches

These are my rough sketches. A lot of my initial sketches focused on sending messages as the form of communication and I tried to incorporate aspects that I know people would be familiar with such as coffee art, scrapbooks, cup on a string, or puppies. Others, I incorporated my own hobbies as the base of the idea such as the display case showcase and the meme messenger

Refined Sketches

For the refined sketches, we decided to refine 3 of our ideas: Cup on a string, Maha's Remainder of things, and what was initially the coffee art idea but I tried to turn it into a morning drink order idea. Here are our sketches.

Final Product

We decided to choose cup on a string as the idea to finalize on because that was the one that received the most feedback and recognition during the speed dating discussions.

We decided to turn the idea into a mobile app and used android studio as the IDE for it. The Cup on a String idea is a calling app and is designed to communicate with your loved ones over long distances. We incorporated gyroscope features into the app such as tilting, and turning; and also a few buttons and a swipe feature.

Interactions

There are a few buttons featured at the bottom of the app. From left to right:
- Add a contact
- Call / Hang up if on a call
- Keypad (dial a number)
There is also a button on the top right to edit contact info
Swiping left or right on the cup with cycle through the contact lists
Tilting the phone upward 90 degrees (perpendicular the ground) will also call the person
Tilting the phone down to be flat on a surface will hang up on a call
